Proportion Problems

         A proportion is an equation with one ratio being equal to a second ratio.
For example, graphic .  To solve a proportion, cross multiply, giving graphic .

A typical problem states that the ratio of 2 quantities is equal to a numerical ratio.
A second piece of information often gives the value of one of the quantities.
If the ratio of the length to the width of a rectangle is 3/2, then
graphic graphic .  Cross multiplying gives results in 2L=3W.
If the Length or Width is known, the other quantity can be calculated.
