Entering Word Problems
Problems must be entered using the following rules.
· Type the word problem into
the Problem Input text window. As an alternative, a
problem may be copied and pasted from another source.
· The problem can be up to 255
characters
· The problem must use good English
including correct punctuation and
spelling.
· Entering
numbers
· Numbers up to 16 may be entered
as a number or as a word.
· Any number may be entered in
the number format. It is recommended that
this form be used.
· Numbers may not include hyphens.
· Entering
expressions
· Expressions must be entered
as a string without blanks. Linear expressions
are valid. Non-linear expressions will result in processing errors.
· Entering
Abbreviations
· Abbreviations are not recommended.
However, if a word is abbreviated,
the abbreviation must be used throughout the problem statement.
· Units
· Problems containing units must contain
consistent units. For example, in
solving for the area of a rectangle, the length and width must be in the same
units such as inches, feet , etc. The user must make the proper conversion
or the numerical results will be incorrect. The capability to handle problems
with mixed units will be added in Version 2.
· Word
hyphenation
· No words may contain a hyphen. If a word
normally contains a hyphen,
enter the word without the hyphen. This may cause a spelling error to be
detected. The spelling error due to the missing hyphen must be ignored.
